Kindergarten makes art too!
Above lyrics sung to the "twinkle little star" song
Hi parents! Welcome to Kindergarten art class!
We will learn many skills and explore art in creative ways. We will learn and practice the following skills- Pencil drawing (freehand), stencil tracing, coloring skills(crayon, colored pencil, oil pastel, color sticks, and marker.), Painting skills ( brush control, water color paint, tempora paint), Cutting skills, mixed media and torn paper art.
At home you can help by reminding students to draw their letters, words and shapes slowly and carefully. Practice drawing simple shapes with your child such as circles, squares and triangles. Practice supervised cutting skills. Don't expect any thing to be perfect for a long time... each child will develop their skills beautifully at their own pace but practice and repetition definitely help. Don't forget to take a trip to a museum to see and talk about art! We are lucky to live just a train ride away from some of the most famous art museums in the world!
Scissor skills- tips

Scissor skills- tips
The main points in teaching how to cut:
- scissors point away from the body.
- thumb goes on top (thumbs up!)
- supporting fingers go on the bottom.
- the scissor-holding hand doesn't really turn (or steer)
- paper-holding hand turns and steers the paper.
- move the paper-holding hand as you cut to sturdy paper.

Dr Seuss was both an Author and an ARTist!
This is Dr. Seuss. He used his imagination to create interesting and unusual creatures to help tell stories to kids. Some of his stories helped kids to try new things, take care of the earth, be nice to others, and of course to be creative and have fun!
Here is one of his stories about never losing HOPE ! McElligot's Pool. Then we are going fishing!!! |
